Manx Electric Railway meets the Snaefell Mountain Railway. This picture illustrates the gauge differences between the two lines. The MER is 3'0 whilst the SMR is 3'6. This siding is present to allow the transfer of SMR stock onto skates to enable them to be taken down to Derby Castle works in the rare need for major work to be carried out.
